Job Description

Job Title: Financial Controller
Tokyo English Life Line (TELL) is a registered non-profit organization
that has been providing counseling and information services to the
international and Japanese communities for over 35 years.
TELL is currently looking for a highly organized and enthusiastic
Financial Controller with extensive knowledge and experience in
book-keeping, accounting, finance, tax systems and social insurance. The
Financial Controller reports directly to TELL's Clinical and Life Line
Directors.

This is a part-time contract position (25 hours per week) commencing
February 2009.

Job Summary/Purpose:

The Financial Controller is responsible for the financial management of
TELL. The Financial Controller works closely with the Finance Committee
of the Board of Directors and the Treasurer of the Board of Directors to
facilitate management of all the financial services of TELL.

Principal Functions:
1. Performs all accounting functions for TELL, including accounts
receivable, payable, event accounting, and monthly profit and loss
statements and balance sheets. (40%)
2. Maintains all required bookkeeping. (20%)
3. Handles all payments, remittances, salary/payroll and expenses, and
any other related transactions. (20%)
4. Oversees the annual budgeting process for TELL. Works with the TCCS
and LLS Directors, the TELL Treasurer, and the Board of Directors to
make budget recommendations and proposals. (10%)
5. Prepares and disseminates both routine and non-routine financial
reports as required by law, management, and the Board of Directors. (10%)

Requirements/Experience (skills, education, related experience):
- Applicable book-keeping and accounting qualification required, with a
minimum of 5 years general business accounting experience in a Japanese
business environment.
- Familiarity with Japanese NPO accounting systems would be an
advantage. Must be proficient in accounting software systems (e.g.,
"Kanjo-bugyo").
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
and Outlook Express is also required, as is familiarity with basic
office machines.
- Native level Japanese required. English ability preferred.
